We would like to help you with some directions to Sumpter.... Whether you are traveling Eastbound or Westbound on I-84, be sure to take Exit 304 into Baker City. If you are traveling West, you will be going downhill when you take exit 304 and you will see the Super 8 motel at the bottom of the exit. You will then turn left and travel under the freeway on Campbell St. Look for the Baker Truck Corral on your left and the Baker County Visitor Center on your right. If you are traveling Eastbound, you will see the Visitor Center on your right and the Baker Truck Corral directly in front of you. No matter which direction brings you......just be sure to take Exit 304! Westbound, you will see signs for the Geiser Grand and Baker City Historic District. You will also see Highway 7 South on the signs. Eastbound, you will turn right onto Campbell St. and if you are traveling Westbound, you will turn left onto Campbell St. and follow it several blocks East to Main Street, then you will turn left onto Main St. and follow Main St. South out of town and another 30 miles before you reach Sumpter. As you leave the freeway, you will also see a Safeway on the left and an Albertsons, and a Bi-Mart on the right. You will also notice a choice of gas stations as you come into Baker City and we recommend that you fill up the gas tank before you head up the mountain to Sumpter. We do have a gas station here in Sumpter, but you do not want to run out of gas on the way. The Baker County Visitor Center is a good place to stretch your legs, check on directions, get stocked up on brochures of attractions in the area - and it's a great spot for pictures too! You will be driving through Historic Baker City on your way, so be sure to keep your camera ready! If you are coming up in the Summer season, be careful of the deer and other critters crossing the highway. The State Department of Transportation keeps us well plowed most days throughout the winter. Enjoy the drive......we'll see you in Sumpter!
