Sumpter holds a rich historic heritage for visitors of all ages to enjoy! Our Sumpter Museums cover
Sumpter's history from the gold rush and founding of our town in 1862.....to gold dredging in the
Historic Sumpter Valley....and don't forget our famous Sumpter Valley Steam Train! Visitors will
discover historic buildings in Sumpter that survived the fire of 1917, including the Municipal Museum
building which the Museum shares with the Sumpter Library! Want to learn more? Just use one of the library's computers to continue your search~its' free! Visitors can see the historic Monighan at the
Cracker Creek Museum of Mining at the South end of town. This outdoor museum is home to
gold mining equipment actually used in Sumpter gold mines during the gold rush!
