Happy Holidays From Sumpter and The SVRY.........!
 The Historic Sumpter Valley Railway season may have ended some time ago, but the famous Stump Dodger whistle was heard through the valley as the Christmas Special ran for the first time December 2007 to help bring the holidays to Sumpter Oregon in a whole new way! The First Annual Christmas Special operated for two consecutive weekends to the delight of riders young and old. The Sumpter Christmas Train was a round trip ride originating at the McEwen Station and running to the Station in Sumpter. Santa greeted railroad passengers at the Sumpter Depot and even rode the Sumpter Steam Train himself! A significant snow storm dumped plenty of the white stuff in the Sumpter Valley just in time for the Chistmas Special providing a breathtaking holiday train ride. Operating the steam train in the snow was something new for the SVRY Volunteer Crew as they worked the Christmas Special both weekends. Volunteers come from all points to work on the Sumpter Steam Train and their dedication is much appreciated! 
Local Sumpter volunteers were on hand to dispense hot refreshments and goodies to passengers arriving at the Sumpter Depot. Fresh hot coffee and homemade hot apple cider was available for sale with proceeds going to the local Special Olympics. Scrumptous homebaked goodies were made and sold by the Sumpter Bag Ladies.
Once the Christmas Special arrived at the Sumpter Depot, passengers had time to browse inside the depot and even take a stroll into Sumpter while they waited for their return trip through the Sumpter Valley to the McEwen Depot. Passengers were able to watch the Sumpter Christmas Parade on the last day the Christmas Special was operating and enjoyed exploring Sumpter.
The Christmas Special was considered a success by all and the SVRY promises to run the train again next year ~ and we recommend you make your reservations early!
