Then comes Winter and with it plenty of snow! The Sumpter Gold Dredge does close for the winter to tours and vehicle traffic.....but the State Park remains open to snowmobilers, snowshoers, nordic skiiers, and Winter Adventurers! Winter explorers will discover trails throughout the entire park. For many, winter means the end of hiking these wonderful trails...... Not for snowshoers! Snow transforms the State Park into a Winter Playground and all you need is a pair of snowshoes! The snowmobile trail groomer and many snowmobiles keep the trail packed so well that you can even walk down to the dredge without snowshoes all Winter.....! Whether you're new to the sport or looking for a challenging yet rewarding winter adventure in Sumpter, we invite you to Snowshoe The Historic Sumpter Valley! We always anticipate hiking some great Sumpter snowshoe trails each winter so come on up and bring the snowshoes! We have no membership requirements or dues to hassle with and don't forget.....snowshoeing up here in the Sumpter mountains is always FREE!
